2009-2010 Tryout Information
Competitive All-Star Cheerleading Program
Our year-round All-Star cheerleading program has been designed for boys and girls interested in a competitive cheerleading program. We offer teams ranging from elementary school age children through high school age children. Training will include two to three sessions a week depending on the level of the team. Practices will focus on physical fitness, conditioning, tumbling, stunting, dancing, jumping, and proper cheer motions.
Team Member Selection
Dynamite All-Star team members are selected based on the following:
Attitude
Work Ethic
Desire to be a part of a team
Strength
Flexibility
Technique
Tumbling Ability
Members will be placed on a team based on age, individual skill level, and the needs of that particular team. Team assignments will be the responsibility of the coaching staff. Teams will be established after tryouts have taken place. This will allow the coaching staff to place each child on the team that is best suited to their level. It is possible that team assignments may change during the course of the 2009 – 2010 year at any time. If this occurs, it is for the betterment of the team member(s), individual team(s), and the program as a whole.
Age Divisions
Youth Ages 11 years and younger
Junior Ages 14 years and younger
Senior Ages 18 years and younger
Clinic and Tryouts
A list of names will be posted on the door of NFGC and at the front desk on Monday, June 1, 2009. The tryout participants names that are included on this list are those who have been chosen to join the North Florida Dynamite All-Star Cheerleading Program. There will be a mandatory parent meeting for the parent(s) of the individuals who make the squad(s) on Monday, June 1st at 6:30 pm. ($75.00 will be due at this meeting – look under “Cheer Camp and Routine” for explanation). It is very important that you attend this meeting to acquire workout schedules, receive all necessary paperwork, have your child sized for practice uniforms, and meet with the coaching staff. This is also a great time for any questions that you might have for Mrs. Holly or Mrs. Erin.
Cheer Practice While Not In Competition Season
The North Florida Dynamite All-Stars will begin practicing Thursday, June 4th for the 2009 – 2010 season. Practices between the beginning of June thru to the end of July will focus on individual training for conditioning, flexibility and cheer skills such as stunts, motions, jumps, and tumbling. This time will also help determine the appropriate skill level of the team for the competition season. Again, please keep in mind that movement between teams will be at the discretion of the coaches, and will be determined by the needs of the individual team member(s), team(s), and the program as a whole.
Cheer Camp and Routine
After the teams have been determined, North Florida Dynamite All-Stars will have Jamography come in to choreograph each squads’ routine. The camp will be held at the gym on Thursday, July 9th; Friday, July 10th; and Saturday, July 11th. This camp is three days of working with top cheer choreographers. By the end of the third day, each squad will have a professionally choreographed routine with professionally cut music. The cost of camp will depend on the number of girls on each squad. As noted above, a $75.00 deposit for the Choreography Camp is required on June 1st at the parents meeting. The cheer camp is mandatory for all team members.
Competitive Season
The competition season may begin as early as October and runs through the end of April. Once the routine has been choreographed, practice will shift the majority of its focus to perfecting the routine and the skills necessary for competition. Conditioning, flexibility, and skill development will still be an essential part of practice, but it will no longer be the major focal point.
